The View's mid-year fashion fix-its for New Year's Resolution blunders
Several months after reciting her New Year's resolutions, a woman is faced with the reality of past over-indulgences and tempted to forego the pledge to reclaim a slimmer-looking body.
From January to March, she'll pay her dues at the gym, literally and figuratively, and await the diet and workouts to take effect. But when Resolutions go by the wayside, women long for a quick fix to conceal extra pounds. Julie Alderfer, celebrity stylist and Wardrobe Supervisor for ABC-TV's "The View," thinks that a few trade secrets that have proven successful for women on-screen and off just might help.Alderfer's approach: Treat the body like you treat the face -- avoid creating lines and bags at all cost.
First, evaluate clothing inside and out to ensure that it gives the figure a chance to look sleek. Otherwise, she says, a woman has a bumpy road ahead of her that's difficult to make look smooth. "If bra bulge shows through your top and across your back, your torso is going to look softer and heavier than it actually is. And if the color mix and patterns of your outfit cut your body into panel-like sections, you'll loose any chance of a streamlined effect," sites the stylist.
Posture is also very important to Alderfer, noting that a stance that reflects insecurity in your body could be your own worst enemy. Some of Alderfer's favorite wardrobe tools include an open but not strapless neckline to show off the collarbone and shoulders, and bra inserts for even an ample bosom to lift and gather "the girls." Other must-haves include a Sassybax bra to make a woman's torso look one-size smaller and smoother, and a high sling-back shoe from Jimmy Choo to elongate her legs and draw attention swiftly from head to toe. She insists that they're worth every penny.
When asked about recent slenderizing success stories, Alderfer recalled helping a celebrity to dress for the Red Carpet by simply replacing her bra with a new one that didn't create grooves or bulges under her clothes."Remember the letter 'S' for smooth, and you'll be half way there," says Alderfer. "A sling-back and a Sassybax can do wonders for a silhouette."
